Senate Begins Screening of Retired General Christopher Musa for Defence Minister Role

The Nigerian Senate has commenced the screening of retired General Christopher Musa for the position of Minister of Defence, following his nomination by President Bola Tinubu.

If confirmed, General Musa will succeed Mohammed Badaru, who resigned from the position earlier this year. Musa, a former Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), brings extensive military experience to the role, including leadership across multiple branches of the armed forces.

The screening process is expected to involve rigorous questioning on defence policies, national security strategies, and plans for strengthening Nigeria’s armed forces amid ongoing security challenges. Lawmakers are likely to scrutinize his track record and vision for modernising the military.

Musa’s nomination comes at a critical time as Nigeria continues to battle insurgency, banditry, and other security threats across multiple regions. His confirmation is viewed as key to shaping the government’s defence agenda moving forward.
