
Vice President Kashim Shettima has departed Nigeria for Belem, Brazil, where he will represent President Bola Tinubu at the 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference.
The two-day summit, hosted by Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in partnership with global stakeholders, will take place in the Amazonian capital of Pará state.
A statement by the Senior Special Assistant to the Vice President on Media and Communication, Stanley Nkwocha, confirmed that Shettima will join world leaders, global development partners, and business executives for high-level climate discussions focused on sustainable development, forest conservation, and global carbon markets.
According to the statement, Shettima is scheduled to deliver Nigeria’s national address during the general plenary of leaders, outlining the country’s climate action agenda and commitment to renewable energy transitions.
He will also participate in the launch of the Tropical Forest Forever Fund and a roundtable on Climate and Nature chaired by President Lula.
The vice president is also expected to hold bilateral meetings with key partners to strengthen Nigeria’s participation in global carbon markets and attract green investments to support national climate goals.
