Popular Nigerian singer Chike has accused a social media user, Chioma Nneoma Ochibili, of defrauding him of $20,000, in a case he says is part of a larger pattern of deception.
The allegations were made by the singer on X Monday morning, where he warned followers to avoid engaging in business with the alleged fraudster. Chike claims he transferred the money for a business venture that was never fulfilled.
“$50,000 in the air. $20,000 of my hard-earned money I didn’t see either. How do I find out this late that I’m just another person she has duped?” Chike wrote, describing his shock and frustration.
The singer emphasized that the specific business details are not the core issue, but rather the alleged fraudulent activity. “Whatever business Chioma sells to you is not the issue. The big issue here is that the business does not even exist, which then equates to fraud,” he stated.
Chike added that he has initiated processes to recover the funds and urged his followers to exercise caution in business dealings online.
Chioma Nneoma Ochibili has not publicly responded to the claims. The matter is expected to attract further scrutiny given Chike’s high-profile status.
