Six Real Estate Marketers Abducted During Property Inspection in Ogun

Six Lagos-based real estate marketers have been kidnapped in Ogun State after gunmen ambushed them during a routine land inspection in Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area.

The victims were on a company-led tour of a site at Oyebola village on Friday when the attackers struck. Their trip was meant to provide them with details needed to market the land to prospective buyers.

Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, confirmed the abduction on Sunday night, saying the police were alerted shortly after the incident and had since launched investigations.

According to him, the command is working to ensure the safe rescue of all six victims.

“They brought some marketers from Lagos to see the land so they can have the requisite information to market it to the public,” Ogunlowo said.
“It was during this visit that the six people were abducted. The command has been on the case since, and we shall definitely ensure they regain their freedom.”

The incident comes amid a sharp rise in kidnappings across Nigeria, prompting renewed calls for state-managed security structures.

Earlier in the week, Southern governors reiterated their demand for the creation of state police, arguing that localised security agencies would respond more effectively to the growing wave of abductions affecting schools, churches, travellers and rural communities.

The call followed a string of high-profile attacks: over 300 students kidnapped at St. Mary’s Catholic School in Niger State, 25 schoolgirls taken in Kebbi State, and 38 worshippers seized from a church in Kwara State.

Security experts warn that the latest abduction in Ogun highlights how criminals are shifting targets, increasingly focusing on professionals and private businesses
