Nigerian singer and actor, Idowu Adeyemi, popularly known as Yhemolee, has voiced his frustration over what he describes as the growing culture of begging on social media platforms.

In a candid post shared online, the Mon Cheri crooner said social media has gradually transformed into a “begging site,” with many users now turning comment sections into spaces for soliciting money.

“It’s no longer news that social media isn’t social media anymore. It’s now a begging site. The only difference is that unlike the beggars on the road, the beggars on the internet have data,” Yhemolee wrote.

The actor noted that many individuals have mastered the act of begging, often dropping their account numbers under celebrities’ posts or those of people they barely know.

“These days, when you post a picture, the first ten comments are account numbers. My major problem is those who have a PhD in begging. Please omit all those begging from my own picture,” he added.

Yhemolee rose to prominence after the release of his hit song Mon Cheri, featuring Chinko Ekun and Asake, and has since gained popularity for his roles in Nollywood blockbusters such as Gangs of Lagos and Alakada: Bad and Boujee.

His remarks have sparked online debate, with many social media users agreeing that the rising wave of digital begging reflects the harsh economic realities in Nigeria.
