A wedding day turned into terror in Sokoto State after armed bandits stormed Chacho community in Wurno Local Government Area and abducted at least 30 women and girls, including a bride and her bridesmaids, just hours before the ceremony.
The armed group raided the village late on Saturday, injuring one resident before rounding up the women and fleeing into the night.
Security analyst Bakatsine disclosed the incident on Sunday in a post on X, describing a devastating attack that shattered what was supposed to be a joyous day for the family.
According to him, the gunmen moved “house to house” as they seized their victims.
“A day meant for joy and celebration was shattered as bandits stormed and inflicted wounds. How much more pain must ordinary families endure before they find safety?” he wrote.
Families say they have been left in anguish, unsure of the condition or whereabouts of the abducted women. The attack adds to the string of recent kidnappings across the North-West, raising concerns over worsening insecurity in rural communities.
Local authorities have yet to issue an official statement, and it remains unclear whether any rescue operation has commenced.
The Chacho incident has sparked outrage online, with many Nigerians questioning how bandits could carry out such a large-scale abduction without immediate security response.
