A tense confrontation unfolded at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command on Wednesday when activist Omoyele Sowore challenged the Minister of Works, David Umahi, over what he described as the misuse of police authority in a personal dispute.
Sowore shared a video of the encounter, alleging that a married woman identified as TracyNither Nicolas Ohiri had been “illegally arrested” in Lagos over accusations of cyberbullying the minister.
According to Sowore, the woman claimed Umahi owed her N250 million for contracts allegedly executed during his tenure as governor of Ebonyi State more than a decade ago.
The activist argued that such a disagreement should have been handled as a civil matter rather than escalated into a criminal case.
He alleged that after her detention at the FCT Police Command, officers arranged a meeting where the minister was present.
“The police facilitated a meeting in which Umahi was brought into the command to threaten, intimidate, and denigrate her inside a police facility,” Sowore claimed.
Footage posted online shows Sowore confronting the minister within the police premises, insisting that public office holders should not use law enforcement agencies to resolve private disputes.
In the clip, he is heard telling Umahi that he is “not supposed to use police” to settle personal matters.
Sowore further alleged that upon their arrival at the command, the planned “interview” was abruptly halted and the minister left the premises visibly upset.
As of the time of reporting, the FCT Police Command has not publicly responded to the allegations surrounding the woman’s arrest or the circumstances of the meeting.
The incident has since sparked debate on social media, with users questioning the boundaries between civil disputes and criminal prosecution — particularly when public officials are involved.
