Tems Reflects on Career Milestones: “I Have Achieved Beyond My Dreams”

Nigerian singer Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has revealed that she has surpassed her personal and professional expectations since entering the music industry.

The Grammy-winning Afrobeats star shared her thoughts during a fan interaction on X, responding to a question about her career achievements.

“I’m looking forward to whatever the Lord has in store and honestly I’ve achieved beyond my dreams from when I had a 9-5,” Tems said.

Tems began her music journey after leaving her job as a digital marketer in January 2018. She released her debut single, Mr Rabel, later that year, which gained modest attention.

Her breakthrough came in 2020 when she featured on Wizkid’s hit single Essence. The track, boosted by a remix with Justin Bieber, peaked at number nine on the Billboard Hot 100, earning Tems international recognition.

In 2023, Tems became the first female Afrobeats artist to win a Grammy, clinching Best Melodic Rap Performance for Wait For U, a collaboration with Future and Drake. In 2025, she won another Grammy for Best African Music Performance, cementing her as the only Nigerian artist with multiple Grammy awards.

Her talents have also extended to film, earning her Oscar and Golden Globe nominations for co-writing Rihanna’s Lift Me Up.

Despite her global success, Tems says she remains grounded and open to future opportunities. Her fans eagerly anticipate what the singer will achieve next, as she continues to push boundaries for African music on the world stage.
