Tems Reveals She Wants a God-Fearing Husband: “Marriage Should Make You Better”

Grammy-winning singer shares her views on love, accountability, and marital growth

Tems, the internationally acclaimed Nigerian singer and songwriter, has shared her perspective on marriage, revealing that she values faith and accountability in a life partner.

Speaking with media personality Angie Martinez, the Grammy award-winner explained that she believes marriage should be more than romantic feelings; it should serve as a platform for personal growth and mutual support through life’s challenges.

“My partner has to be a God-fearing man. Because why would you truly love me if you don’t have anyone that you answer to? If you’re not accountable to anyone, how could you choose to love and keep loving me for the rest of our lives?” she said.

Marriage as a journey of growth

Tems stressed that marriage is not always smooth and that couples must be prepared to face hardships together. She believes that a strong, faith-driven partner is more likely to remain committed, accountable, and capable of sustaining love over the long term.

“Marriage is something that makes you better as a human being. It should. It shouldn’t be about only love, it’s about compatibility. It’s about whether a relationship makes you a better person, like it evolves you. Because marriage is a whole another level, it’s supposed to bring out the hard times,” she added.

The singer’s candid reflections offer fans a glimpse into her approach to relationships, highlighting faith, accountability, and personal growth as core pillars of a lasting marriage.
