Nigerian singer debunks death rumours but reignites controversy with bold confession
Controversial Nigerian musician Terry G has stirred social media frenzy after claiming that the devil was responsible for his rise to fame, just days after rumours of his death went viral online.
In a now-deleted Instagram video, the singer — known for his eccentric style and outspoken nature — reassured fans that he was alive and well, dismissing reports of his supposed death.
“My phone has been buzzing since morning. People have been calling to check on me because they saw something online saying Terry G don die,” he said in pidgin. “I beg, whoever is trending that news should stop. I’m doing very fine. Please stop that, I beg you in the name of God.”
But it was what he said next that shocked many followers.
“And also, let me clarify this. There’s another one trending about me serving the devil. Una no know before? Yes, na devil I dey serve. Na devil make me blow,” he declared.
The comment reignited debate around his earlier statement on The Honest Bunch Podcast, where he admitted, “I sing for the devil. I’m falling short of the glory of God.”
Terry G, born Gabriel Oche Amanyi, rose to fame in the late 2000s with hit singles like Free Madness and Akpako Master, becoming one of Nigeria’s most unpredictable and controversial entertainers.
While some fans dismissed his remarks as sarcasm, others accused the singer of promoting demonic influence in the music industry. The video, which has since been deleted, continues to circulate across social media platforms, fuelling intense debate about faith, fame, and the price of success in showbiz.
