Three Dead, One Injured as Truck Crashes on Abeokuta–Lagos Expressway

Three people lost their lives and another sustained injuries in a lone truck accident on the Abeokuta–Lagos Expressway, officials confirmed. The crash occurred early Sunday at the Railway Crossing and involved a white Volvo commercial truck with registration number AYE 977 XA.

The Ogun State Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) spokesperson, Afolabi Odunsi, revealed that the vehicle carried seven passengers — five males and two females. Three victims died on the spot, one was injured, while three others escaped unhurt.

Odunsi attributed the tragedy to overspeeding, noting that the driver lost control and rammed into a roadside ditch.

Emergency Response
Operatives from the FRSC, the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), and the Nigeria Police Force responded immediately, rescuing the injured and clearing the accident site to restore traffic flow. The injured victim was taken by family members to the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Igbobi, Lagos for specialised treatment. The families of the deceased have claimed the bodies for burial arrangements.

The FRSC Sector Commander, Akinwunmi Fasakin, warned motorists to avoid night-time speeding and reckless driving, particularly at critical junctions and railway crossings, urging strict adherence to speed limits to prevent further loss of lives.
