Timi Frank Slams Paul Biya’s Re-Election at 93, Calls It a “Mockery of Democracy”

Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Timi Frank, has denounced the declaration of 93-year-old Paul Biya as the winner of Cameroon’s presidential election, describing it as a “brazen fraud” and an “insult to democracy.”

Frank, in a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday, accused the Cameroonian authorities of subverting the will of the people through fabricated results designed to keep Biya in power.

“The so-called results announced by the regime are a fabrication and a clear subversion of the people’s will,” Frank said. “The world must not stand by while democracy in Cameroon is strangled in broad daylight.”

He condemned reports of violence and repression against citizens protesting the outcome, alleging that security forces have been killing and arresting peaceful demonstrators demanding that their votes be respected.

“Innocent Cameroonians are being killed by their own security forces simply for demanding that their votes count. This bloodshed must end immediately,” he added.

Frank urged international bodies, including the United Nations (UN) and the International Criminal Court (ICC), to investigate the alleged human rights abuses and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.

He further insisted that the “true winner” of the Cameroonian election is opposition candidate Issa Tchiroma Bakary, whose victory he said reflects the genuine will of the people.

“The international community must recognise this fact and pressure Paul Biya to step down,” Frank stated.

Paul Biya, Africa’s longest-serving ruler, has been in power since 1982. His controversial re-election has sparked outrage across Africa, with critics calling for renewed global attention to the state of democracy in Cameroon.
