Tinubu’s APC Under Siege: Hunger, Hopelessness and Political Kin Turn on His Leadership

Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, a senior figure within President Bola Tinubu’s All Progressives Congress (APC), has accused the administration of presiding over a nation beset by hunger, despair, and economic ruin. His scathing criticisms, issued June 18, followed comments by ex‑Minister of Transportation Chibuike Amaechi—who declared himself “hungry” at a symposium marking his 60th birthday—a remark Eze says echoes the plight of millions.

Eze lambasted the government’s reaction to Amaechi’s admission, describing it as “insensitive, clueless” and “taboo”—apparently punishable when voiced by citizens. He warned that the administration’s refusal to address hunger is tantamount to a national emergency.

He singled out FCT Minister Nyesom Wike for disparaging Amaechi—calling Wike’s snub “sycophancy” that deepens public anger and “weaponizes” hunger to suppress genuine voices. Eze argues Amaechi’s plea was not self‑pity but a patriotic appeal for policy introspection.

Highlighting the tragic human cost, Eze linked economic hardship to a surge in suicides, claiming more Nigerians are taking their lives under Tinubu’s watch than ever before—suggesting the crisis eclipses suffering seen even during the Biafran War.

The chieftain accused officials of extravagant lifestyles—funded through looted public coffers—while ordinary citizens struggle to afford food. He mocked infrastructure projects like flyovers: “Building flyovers in Abuja … can never quench the thirst and hunger in Nigerians.”

Eze urged Tinubu’s government to ditch hollow pageantry and deliver compassionate economic policies. “If you are in government or looting … you’ll eat,” he said, “else you feel the pang of hunger.” He concluded by warning that unless Tinubu shifts course, voters will make their voices heard in the 2027 elections.

As Nigeria reels under soaring food prices and insecurity, this high-profile critique from within APC signals deepening fractures—threatening Tinubu’s domestic standing and testing the unity of his governing coalition.
