A nurse working at Gambo Sawaba General Hospital, Kofar Gayan, Zaria, Kaduna State, has been brutally killed by suspected phone snatchers while returning home from work.
The victim, identified as Hadiza Musa, was the Deputy Head of the hospital’s Maternity Unit and was attacked around 6:30 p.m. on Saturday near Filin Mallawa, Tudun Wada, Zaria.
According to her husband, Hamza Ibrahim Idris, who works in Abuja, his wife had earlier called to inform him she would stop by a salon and an Islamic chemist before heading home. That call turned out to be their last conversation.
“I tried calling her afterward, but her phone was unreachable,” he said.
Idris explained that eyewitnesses reported the assailants, who were riding in a tricycle (Keke Napep), attempted to snatch her phone and struck her on the head during the struggle. “There were bruises on her hands, showing she tried to hold on to her phone,” he added.
Her body was later discovered dumped by the roadside near Mallawa Eid Ground and was rushed to Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH), Shika, where doctors confirmed her dead on arrival.
The incident has sparked outrage among residents, who have called on security agencies to intensify patrols and curb the growing menace of phone snatching and violent crimes in Zaria.
As of press time, the Kaduna State Police Command had yet to release an official statement on the killing.
