Tragic Yobe Road Crash Kills Six in Head-On Collision Between Trailer and Canter Truck

At least six people have died following a devastating head-on collision between an articulated trailer and a canter truck along the Potiskum–Damaturu highway in Yobe State.

Eyewitnesses reported that the crash occurred when the driver of the canter truck was allegedly driving against traffic, leading to a violent impact with the trailer transporting soya beans to Maiduguri, Borno State. The trailer carried five passengers, including the driver, of whom only one survived with injuries.

The canter truck, carrying earth mould bricks, had two occupants who tragically lost their lives in the accident.

Travelers and local residents rushed to the scene in a bid to assist the victims, but the scale of the damage left little that could be done immediately. The trailer was severely damaged and left by the roadside.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) personnel from the Yobe State Sector Command responded promptly, using a crane to lift and clear the wrecked trailer from the highway to restore traffic flow.

Authorities have not released further details regarding the identities of the victims or any formal investigation, but the incident underscores ongoing concerns about road safety along Nigeria’s highways, particularly with heavy-duty vehicles.
