Washington, DC — Former US President Donald Trump has claimed that Iran’s president has requested a ceasefire, but he emphasized that the United States would only consider negotiations once the Strait of Hormuz is fully open to shipping.
Trump made the statement on his Truth Social platform, writing: “Iran has just asked the United States of America for a CEASEFIRE! We will consider when Hormuz Strait is open, free, and clear. Until then, we are blasting Iran into oblivion or, as they say, back to the Stone Ages!!!”
There has been no independent verification of Trump’s claim that Iran formally requested a ceasefire. The Strait of Hormuz, a critical maritime route for global oil shipments, has been a focal point in escalating tensions between the US and Iran.
The former president’s statement underscores ongoing geopolitical strains in the Middle East, with the potential for continued military action if Iran does not comply with US demands regarding the strategic waterway.
