Turaki-Led PDP Heads to Appeal After Court Nullifies Ibadan National Convention

The Tanimu Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced plans to appeal a Federal High Court judgment in Ibadan that nullified its National Convention, insisting that the party’s leadership remains legally valid and operational.

In a statement issued on Friday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong, the faction said it had directed its legal team to immediately file an appeal and pursue all available legal options to challenge the ruling.

The Ibadan Federal High Court declined to grant an order of mandamus sought by the party, ruling that doing so would amount to sitting on appeal over decisions of courts of coordinate jurisdiction.

Responding to the judgment, the Turaki-led PDP leadership— which emerged from the Ibadan National Convention—maintained that the ruling does not invalidate its existence or authority pending decisions from appellate courts.

“Notwithstanding this judgment, our party remains firmly on course. We urge our members to stay resolute and committed. There is absolutely no cause for alarm,” Ememobong said.

The party further reaffirmed its commitment to what it described as its ongoing “Rebirth Movement,” stressing that internal reforms and mobilisation efforts would continue uninterrupted.

The legal battle adds another layer to the PDP’s internal leadership crisis, as rival factions continue to seek judicial backing ahead of future political contests.
