Two people have lost their lives, and four others were injured in a fatal road accident along the Iguobazuwa–Benin Road near the Ovia River in Ovia South West Local Government Area of Edo State.
The Edo State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Cyril Mathew, confirmed the tragic incident, revealing that seven persons were involved, while one escaped without injury.
According to Mathew, preliminary investigations showed that overspeeding was responsible for the crash. The tipper driver, he said, lost control of his vehicle and rammed into another, leading to the deadly collision.
Emergency responders evacuated the victims, with the injured rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were deposited at the mortuary.
The FRSC has again cautioned motorists to observe speed limits and prioritize road safety to prevent avoidable loss of lives.
