Kano State Fire Service has confirmed the deaths of two individuals during separate search and rescue operations carried out on Thursday in Ungogo and Karaye Local Government Areas.
According to a statement by the Service’s Public Relations Officer, Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, emergency teams were promptly deployed following distress calls to the agency’s Emergency Response Unit.
The first tragedy occurred in Bachirawa, Kwanar Madugu, Ungogo, where 18-year-old Yusif Malam Gwani Isah fell into an open water source. Firefighters retrieved him unconscious, but he was later pronounced dead. His body was handed over to the local Ward Head, Jibrin Isah.
The second incident took place in Kofar Yamma, Karaye, involving an eight-year-old boy, Abdussalam Ibrahim, who fell into a well. Rescue teams managed to pull him out, but he was also pronounced dead and handed over to his father, Malam Musa Mudi.
The Kano State Fire Service expressed condolences to the families of the victims and urged residents to exercise caution around open wells, water sources, and hazardous areas, particularly to protect children.
“These tragic incidents highlight the importance of safety measures to prevent similar accidents,” Abdullahi said.
