Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has advised Nigerians whose visas were recently revoked by the administration of United States President Donald Trump to leave the country immediately before they are arrested.
In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday, Sani cautioned that those affected by the new US immigration clampdown risk detention by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) if they remain in the country illegally.
“Nigerians and other thousands of Africans whose visas were recently revoked by President Trump should hasten and leave the country and return home before they get arrested by ICE,” Sani wrote. “No matter how long you live in the comfort of your adopted home, you will someday be reminded that it’s not your father’s house.”
His warning comes amid reports that President Trump’s administration has intensified immigration enforcement, including mass visa revocations and a review of residency permits.
The policy shift has reportedly sparked panic among African migrants in the US, many of whom are now uncertain about their legal status.
Sani’s message, though laced with humour, underscores the growing anxiety among foreign nationals affected by the new directive, as Washington rolls out stricter border and residency measures.
Observers say the move could lead to a surge in voluntary returns by affected immigrants seeking to avoid forced deportation.
