Nigerian singer and music executive Tobi Mohammed, popularly known as Alhaji Popping, has revealed how he narrowly escaped death during a terrorist attack in Bauchi State.
The artist, who shared the chilling experience on the Adesope Live Show, said the attack happened in 2017 while he was travelling with fellow musician Rayce. According to him, armed men disguised in military uniforms ambushed their vehicle and opened fire.
“They shot at us 10 times in Bauchi in 2017. Bullets pierced the steering, the AC, the boot—everywhere. But not one touched me,” Alhaji Popping recalled.
Despite the car being riddled with bullets, both he and Rayce escaped without injury. He described the incident as a life-altering moment that deepened his faith and made him more conscious of divine grace.
“If my mom watches this, she’s going to call me and pray for me because I didn’t even tell her about it. The experience is one of the things that made me very close to God. I realised that everything that has happened to me is an expression of grace,” he added.
The Bauchi ambush remains one of his most defining personal stories, shaping both his outlook on life and his music journey.
