Wike Taunts Obi, Atiku, Says Opposition Coalition Is Just a “Content Creation Gang” Without Political Depth

Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has lashed out at the newly formed opposition coalition involving Peter Obi, Atiku Abubakar, and other prominent political figures, dismissing them as mere “content creators” with no real political structure or electoral strength to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking on Thursday, July 4, 2025, during a briefing with stakeholders in Abuja, Wike said the opposition’s recent moves are nothing more than “social media propaganda,” accusing the coalition leaders of being more focused on trendsetting and online narratives than building a functional political front.

“This is not about TikTok or X (formerly Twitter). Let them continue creating content, but politics is about grassroots structure, strategy, and results. Obi, Atiku, and their co-travelers are just online influencers, not politicians who can win elections,” Wike fired, drawing loud applause from APC supporters at the meeting.

He alleged that several members of the coalition were “desperate to stay relevant” and were hiding behind activism and anti-government sentiments to cover their personal political failures, especially after losing the 2023 presidential election. “They had the chance to lead. They blew it. Now they’re chasing clout,” Wike stated.

The FCT Minister also took a veiled swipe at former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, saying he has “run for president too many times without ever fixing his internal party crises,” and mocked Peter Obi, calling him “a former governor turned motivational speaker.”

Wike insisted that the APC remains the only party with a functioning nationwide structure and leadership. “While others hold talk shows, we build roads, bridges, and deliver capital projects. That’s the difference,” he said, referencing President Tinubu’s infrastructural drive under the Renewed Hope agenda.

The remarks have drawn sharp criticism from opposition voices, who accuse Wike of enabling dictatorship by discrediting dissent and deflecting from pressing issues in the country, including insecurity and economic hardship. However, Wike appeared unbothered, doubling down by saying: “Nigeria needs leaders, not influencers.”
