Wild Fire Engulfs Homes and Transformer Site in Kano, Sparks Urgent Safety Warning
A destructive fire swept through parts of three residential buildings and an electricity transformer site in the Gaida area near Fatima Bread, Kumbotso, leaving residents shaken and authorities issuing urgent safety advisories.
According to the Kano State Fire Service, the blaze started on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, around 11:05 a.m., after a distress call from local resident Aminu Bello. Firefighters from the headquarters and teams from Sharada and Rijiyar Zaki fire stations quickly responded to the emergency.
“Upon arrival, our personnel found an open space measuring about 50 by 50 feet, used as an electrical transformer site, completely engulfed in flames,” the agency said in a statement.
The fire spread rapidly to nearby homes, affecting three residential structures. The first, a small residential building, was severely damaged, while a one-storey home sustained extensive damage on its upper floor. A third residential property also suffered significant impact. Witnesses described the scene as intense, with thick flames consuming portions of the buildings before firefighters brought the fire under control.
Preliminary investigations indicate the blaze was triggered by an electrical spark.
Speaking on the incident, the Director of the Fire Service, Sani Anas, urged residents to observe strict safety measures.
“We advise members of the public to take all necessary precautions to prevent fire outbreaks, especially by avoiding unsafe electrical practices and ensuring proper handling of appliances,” he said.
No casualties have been reported so far, and authorities continue to assess the full extent of the damage. The Fire Service reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property, emphasizing the importance of vigilance and timely reporting of emergencies.A destructive fire swept through parts of three residential buildings and an electricity transformer site in the Gaida area near Fatima Bread, Kumbotso, leaving residents shaken and authorities issuing urgent safety advisories.
