Afrobeat star calls 2Baba “old man” after veteran rates Burna Boy ahead of him
Nigerian music superstar Wizkid has taken aim at fellow veteran singer 2Baba, following comments that positioned Burna Boy above him on the global music stage.
The controversy erupted after 2Baba, in a recent interview with Seun Okinbaloye, weighed in on the debate over Nigeria’s so-called “Big 3” – Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy – widely regarded as the country’s most influential global musical exports.
During the interview, 2Baba named Burna Boy as the leading Nigerian artiste “on the global stage”, sparking a reaction from Wizkid.
Responding on Snapchat, Wizkid dismissed 2Baba’s ranking, describing him as an “old man”, and criticised him for commenting on music while dealing with personal matters.
“At least make peace with your family first before having opinions about music. Old man,” Wizkid wrote.
He added: “I’m never letting it slack in 2026,” reaffirming his determination to dominate the Afrobeat scene.
Wizkid had previously declared himself Nigeria’s number one Afrobeat star, intensifying the ongoing rivalry among the country’s top musical exports. This public exchange highlights the competitive nature of Nigeria’s global music influence and the personal stakes involved in the “Big 3” debate.
