Yobe Senior Secondary Student Dies Following Alleged Bullying at GSTC, Potiskum

A Senior Secondary School (SS3) student of the Government Science and Technical College (GSTC), Potiskum, Yobe State, has reportedly died following an alleged bullying incident involving fellow students.

The incident occurred on Sunday, under circumstances that are still under investigation. The deceased student was buried the same day in his hometown of Gadaka, Fika Local Government Area.

Confirming the case, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, Yobe State Police spokesman, said investigations have commenced to determine the exact cause of death.

“Yes, we are aware of the incident. Investigation is currently ongoing to ascertain what led to the death of the student,” Abdulkarim stated.

A teacher, who spoke on condition of anonymity, added that some students suspected to be involved have been handed over to the police, with further inquiries ongoing.

The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Prof. Abba Idriss Adam, was contacted for comment and promised to provide an official response, but had not yet replied at the time of filing this report.

Authorities are calling for calm as the investigation continues and have urged schools and parents to address bullying and ensure the safety of students.
