Yobe: Troops Foil ISWAP Attempt to Strip School Roof in Night Operation

Troops of the 159 Military Battalion in Kanamma have intercepted suspected ISWAP terrorists attempting to remove roofing sheets from a primary school in Ngamma village, Yunusari Local Government Area of Yobe State.

The attempted theft reportedly occurred at about 9:00 pm on February 9, when armed men invaded Ngamma Primary School, allegedly seeking to strip the building of its roofing zinc.

Security sources monitoring insurgency activities in the Lake Chad region disclosed that the attackers were armed with sophisticated weapons and allegedly coerced some local youths into assisting with the removal of the materials.

Military Response and Civilian Injury

Troops were swiftly deployed to the scene following reports of the intrusion. During the operation to repel the insurgents, a stray bullet struck Umar Maigari, 19, a resident of the village.

He sustained a gunshot wound to his left leg and was evacuated to the Specialist Hospital in Geidam, where he is said to be responding to treatment.

Authorities confirmed that the situation has since been brought under control.

Ongoing Security Operations in Yobe

Military sources say surveillance and intelligence operations have been intensified across Yunusari and surrounding communities to prevent further attacks.

Yobe State, located in Nigeria’s North-East, remains one of the areas affected by insurgent activity linked to Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) and other extremist groups operating within the Lake Chad basin.

Security forces continue counter-insurgency efforts aimed at protecting civilian infrastructure, including schools and community facilities.
