“You Gave Your Son Land Worth $2 Billion” — VDM Returns With Public School Kids, Demands Action From Wike

Social media activist Martins Vincent Otse (VDM) staged his second protest at FCT Minister Nyesom Wike’s Abuja office on Monday (June 23, 2025), this time accompanied by public school pupils out of class for nearly three months. He confronted Wike saying, “I heard you gave your son land worth over $2 billion, that’s why I came back…with these public school children.”

Draped in school uniforms, the children formed an open-air classroom at Wike’s gate. Responding with biting satire, VDM taught them the alphabet while chanting, “S for Suegbe, T for Tinubu, W for Wike,” to highlight the crisis caused by the prolonged teachers’ strike.

The strike, which began on March 24, 2025, was triggered by six FCT Area Council Chairmen’s failure to implement the new ₦70,000 minimum wage, leaving over 215,000 pupils in more than 550 schools across the capital locked out.

VDM accused Wike of misprioritization, wealth accumulation for his family over children’s basic education needs. “He gave his son land worth over $2 billion yet left our kids in limbo…this how he dey waka go London school?” he thundered while distributing rice and chicken to the protesting pupils.

FCT Mandate Secretary Bitrus Garki responded, stating the FCT Administration had intervened repeatedly but attributed responsibility primarily to the area councils. He urged patience, assuring that discussions involving the NUT, NULGE, NLC, and traditional rulers were underway.

VDM issued a seven-day ultimatum: should children fail to return to class, more pupils—and next, primary healthcare workers—will join further protests to shame the government into action.

Analysts say VDM’s theatrics effectively spotlight a larger national disgrace: millions of children out of school, government negligence, and stark inequality. For now, the message is clear—the glaring contrast: multi-billionaire land for one man vs. empty classrooms for hundreds of thousands demands urgent redress.
