The Young Progressives Party (YPP) has expelled Hon. Uzokwe Lovepet Ifeanyi Peter, a member of the House of Representatives representing Nnewi North, Nnewi South, and Ekwusigo Federal Constituency, for alleged gross misconduct and anti-party activities.
The decision was reached at the party’s 28th National Working Committee (NWC) meeting, held at its national secretariat in Abuja on Monday.
Announcing the expulsion, the YPP National Publicity Secretary, Egbeola Wale Martins, said the NWC acted after thoroughly reviewing petitions and what he described as “video evidence” confirming the lawmaker’s anti-party behaviour.
“The National Working Committee ratified the immediate expulsion of Hon. Uzokwe after reviewing petitions and video evidence of anti-party acts,” Egbeola stated.
He also dismissed Uzokwe’s self-proclaimed position as the YPP’s national leader, clarifying that no one has been appointed to replace the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah in that capacity.
“His claim to leadership is false and should be disregarded,” the communiqué read, reaffirming the party’s unity and discipline.
Turning to national issues, the YPP called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to “stop the cycle of excuses” over Nigeria’s worsening insecurity and religiously motivated violence.
The party referenced the United States government’s decision to list Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” under former President Donald Trump, over alleged persecution of Christians and failure to tackle terrorism sponsors.
“This designation was long overdue,” the YPP stated, accusing successive administrations of neglecting justice for victims of terrorism and religious killings.
The party urged the Tinubu administration to take “decisive and transparent action” against known terror financiers and to demonstrate stronger political will in protecting citizens across all regions.
