Police in Zamfara State have recovered 15 cows stolen during a midnight raid by armed bandits in Gusau Local Government Area, as security operations intensify across the troubled region.
The Zamfara State Command of the Nigeria Police Force confirmed the recovery following a swift response to the attack on Gidan Kwagiri village in Damba District.
According to security updates shared by analyst Zagazola Makama, the incident occurred around 1:30am on February 15 when suspected bandits stormed the village, rustling cows and sheep belonging to residents.
The attack reportedly caused panic in the farming community, where livestock remains a primary source of livelihood.
Security sources indicated that upon receiving distress reports, the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Damba Division mobilised officers alongside patrol teams from the Department of Operations to pursue the assailants.
The joint operation led to the recovery of 15 cows, which have since been returned to their owners.
Authorities say efforts are ongoing to apprehend the perpetrators and recover the remaining stolen livestock. Security patrols have also been reinforced in the area to deter further attacks.
Zamfara has been one of the states hardest hit by banditry in recent years, with rural communities frequently targeted in raids involving cattle rustling and kidnappings.
Residents are hoping the strengthened security presence will bring some relief amid persistent fears of renewed attacks.
