Zamfara Troops Rescue Five Kidnap Victims, Repel Bandit Attack on Maru–Mayanchi Highway

Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have successfully rescued five kidnapped victims and repelled armed bandits following a violent attack on travellers along the Maru–Mayanchi–Gusau road in Zamfara State.

The incident occurred around 6:40 p.m. on March 29, when bandits ambushed two vehicles transporting passengers in Maru Local Government Area. Reports indicate one civilian was killed and 14 passengers abducted.

Military units stationed at Forward Operating Bases in Mayanchi and Fangaltama swiftly responded to the distress call. Pursuing the attackers along their escape route, troops rescued five victims, including the wife of a serving military officer, Mrs Dami Nehemiah, her son, and three others who sustained injuries during the assault. The wounded were immediately taken to a medical facility for treatment.

Troops have intensified patrols in the area to prevent further attacks and ensure the safety of commuters along the highway. Security analysts emphasise the significance of such rapid response operations in curbing banditry and protecting lives in the region.
