Abia State’s Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has a new leader as Prince Onukwue of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) was elected State Chairman for the 2026–2028 tenure. The closely contested election took place at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office in Umuahia, signaling a significant leadership transition from former Chairman Nelson Uluocha of the Young Progressives Party (YPP).
Seventeen of the 19 registered political party chairmen in Abia participated in the supervised election, monitored by IPAC National representatives and INEC officials. Other key officers elected alongside Onukwue include Mrs. Victoria Akabuike (Boot Party) as Deputy Chairman and Larry Charles (Action Peoples Party) as State Secretary. The new executive team was immediately sworn in following the announcement of results.
Addressing the gathered party leaders, Onukwue thanked them for their confidence and pledged that IPAC under his leadership would champion progressive policies while holding the Abia State government accountable.
The election comes two years after the ZLP made waves in Abia by sweeping the November 2, 2024, local government elections, cementing its influence in the state’s political landscape.
