2027: ADC Knows How to Stop Tinubu’s Re-election, Dele Momodu Says

A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dele Momodu, has said the party is working behind the scenes to prevent President Bola Tinubu from securing a second term in the 2027 general election.

Momodu made the statement during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time on Wednesday, saying the opposition would not publicly disclose its strategy for challenging Tinubu’s re-election bid.

He recalled Tinubu’s political struggles while seeking a second term as governor of Lagos State, arguing that opposition figures were also working behind the scenes to achieve their objectives.

“I can’t tell you about strategy in public. What we know is that once upon a time, Tinubu fought for himself to survive the second term as governor of Lagos State. So others are also working very hard behind the scenes,” Momodu said.

“We are not going to come in public and say this, but we know what to do to make sure that he does not get that second term,” he added.

Momodu Questions INEC’s Credibility Ahead of 2027

The publisher of Ovation Magazine also questioned the credibility of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) under Tinubu’s administration.

Momodu alleged that the president had appointed too many people from the South-West to the electoral body, raising concerns about whether the 2027 general election would be free and fair.

He claimed that many Nigerians, including some of Tinubu’s supporters, doubted the president’s commitment to ensuring a credible electoral process.

“If you ask an average Nigerian today about Tinubu, do you trust Tinubu to conduct a free and fair election? I can tell you, 90 per cent of them will say no,” he said.

“Nobody trusts Tinubu to run a free and fair election, including his own supporters,” Momodu added.

The figures and claims were presented by Momodu during the interview and were not independently established in the remarks provided.

ADC Chieftain Cites Public Sentiment

Momodu also dismissed suggestions that Tinubu would refuse to accept defeat if he lost the 2027 election, arguing that the determination of Nigerians could influence the outcome.

He said his confidence was not based solely on the ADC but also on what he described as growing dissatisfaction among ordinary Nigerians.

“Look, you do not know the determination of Nigerians, and now I’m not resting my confidence on just my party. I’m talking about the ordinary man on the street who cannot imagine Tinubu coming back again,” he said.

Momodu Alleges Fear Among Political Office Holders

The ADC chieftain further alleged that fear had weakened the willingness of governors, judges and lawmakers to challenge the president.

He claimed that some political figures publicly supporting Tinubu might privately prefer to see him lose the election because they were uncomfortable with what he described as his dominance over elected office holders.

“Governors are scared, judges are scared, legislators are scared. So, Tinubu has become a god that nobody is ready to face and say, ‘Oga, you’ve done your best. Please go home,’” Momodu said.

His comments come as political parties and their leaders intensify preparations for the 2027 general election, with the contest expected to shape alliances and opposition strategies across the country.
