Fresh political calculations ahead of the 2027 presidential election took centre stage on Tuesday after Senate President Godswill Akpabio declared that Akwa Ibom would deliver the highest number of votes in the South-South region for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Akpabio made the declaration during a political gathering in Akwa Ibom where leaders and supporters of the All Progressives Congress gathered to reaffirm support for the ruling party ahead of the next election cycle.

The Senate President said residents of the state were already benefiting from the policies and programmes of Tinubu’s administration, insisting that the growing support for the president would translate into a strong electoral performance in 2027.

“We will deliver the highest votes for President Bola Tinubu in the entire South-South come 2027,” Akpabio stated during the meeting.

His comments come at a time when political alignments and early campaigns are beginning to shape conversations around the next presidential election, particularly in the South-South region traditionally seen as a stronghold of opposition parties.

Akpabio also called on APC members in the state to remain united and focused on expanding the party’s influence across Akwa Ibom and neighbouring states.

The statement has since generated reactions online, with supporters and critics debating the political strength of the APC in the oil-rich region and Tinubu’s chances of securing broader support ahead of the election.

Reacting on social media, a user identified as @EketVoice wrote: “Nigerians will decide with their votes when the time comes.”

Political observers say the coming months are likely to witness intensified rhetoric and strategic positioning from both the ruling party and opposition blocs as preparations for 2027 gather momentum.
