The Director-General of the Allied Peoples Movement Campaign Organisation, Felix Hyat, has urged Nigerians not to fear a possible presidency led by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, expressing confidence that the governor has the capacity to address the country’s security and economic challenges.

Hyat spoke on Wednesday in Abuja during the inauguration of North-Central zonal state coordinators of the Makinde/Daura Campaign Organisation. He called on campaign officials to unite and intensify efforts to secure victory for the ticket in the January 16, 2027, presidential election.

He said Nigeria could no longer afford to continue on its current path, citing insecurity and economic hardship among the challenges requiring urgent attention. According to him, the campaign must take its message directly to voters through grassroots mobilisation.

“This journey begins at the polling units and moves to the ward headquarters, local government headquarters, state headquarters and, ultimately, the national level. Politics is local, and our work must be localised,” Hyat said.

He described the Makinde/Daura ticket as a strong combination and urged campaign members to recognise the importance of party structures, candidates and those responsible for delivering electoral support. He stressed that party chairmen at different levels must be respected and that campaign responsibilities should be clearly defined.

Hyat also emphasised the importance of polling unit agents, saying their competence and preparedness could influence electoral outcomes. He urged coordinators to engage voters directly and encourage them to assess the performance of political representatives before making their choices.

Defending Makinde’s suitability for the presidency, Hyat described the governor as a capable leader and said Nigerians had little reason to fear his candidature. He argued that the country needed a leader able to work effectively and respond to the challenges facing citizens.

The campaign director-general called on Nigerians to support Makinde’s presidential ambition, expressing confidence that the campaign would succeed. He also criticised political leaders whom he accused of abandoning the communities they claim to represent, saying the 2027 election would give voters an opportunity to make their voices heard.

In his remarks, the Campaign Council’s Deputy Director of Operations, Tony Aziegbemi, urged state directors to intensify grassroots mobilisation and promote the candidate’s positions on the economy, education, security and governance.

Aziegbemi blamed the APC-led Federal Government’s economic policies for worsening hunger and poverty. He claimed that 35 million Nigerians go to bed hungry every night, attributing the figure to the National Bureau of Statistics, although the specific statistic was not independently established in the supplied report.

He said the campaign intended to reach at least 15 million people affected by hunger and poverty, adding that a Makinde/Daura administration would prioritise tackling both problems. Aziegbemi also promised that no Nigerian would go to bed hungry under their proposed leadership.
