Veteran publisher and politician Dele Momodu has stirred fresh political debate after sharing a campaign-style poster portraying himself as the running mate to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The Ovation magazine publisher posted the image on his Facebook page on Monday alongside a message focused on national reconciliation, political re-orientation and rebuilding Nigeria’s democratic institutions.
Momodu described the coming 2027 election as a likely showdown between President Bola Tinubu and Atiku, whom he identified as the two dominant political forces currently shaping the race.
According to him, a possible third-force movement may emerge as it did during the 2023 elections, but he questioned whether such a platform would possess the political strength and structure required to defeat the major contenders.
“It promises to be the battle of the Tians. A third force, hopefully, may show up, like it did in 2023, but not with enough fire power and tenacity to upstage, and obliterate, the two elder statesmen,” Momodu wrote.
The media entrepreneur also used the post to advocate what he described as a fresh political direction for the African Democratic Congress, ADC, urging the party to unite experienced politicians with younger technocrats and reform-minded leaders.
He argued that bridging generational and ideological divides within the opposition could help reduce growing political tension and strengthen national unity ahead of the next election cycle.
Momodu further stressed the importance of stronger collaboration between Northern and Southern Nigeria, warning that the country’s worsening economic and social challenges require leaders willing to work across ethnic and regional lines.
Referencing Nigeria’s founding political figures, including Nnamdi Azikiwe, Ahmadu Bello and Obafemi Awolowo, Momodu called for a return to issue-based politics driven by ideas, vision and national development rather than division and personality battles.
While neither Atiku nor the ADC has officially commented on the poster, the move has already triggered speculation online over possible political alignments ahead of the 2027 race.
