2027 Election: Ex-Imo Deputy Governor Eze Madumere Clinches PDP Senatorial Ticket for Owerri Zone

Former Imo State Deputy Governor, Prince Eze Madumere, has secured the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ticket for the Imo East Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections, positioning himself for a major political comeback in Owerri Zone.

Madumere emerged victorious after a fiercely contested PDP primary election in Imo State, defeating fellow aspirants Hon. Greg Egu and High Chief Summers Nwokie to clinch the party’s senatorial ticket for the February 6, 2027 election.

Celebrations broke out among supporters and party faithful shortly after the results were announced, with political stakeholders and loyalists gathering to congratulate the former deputy governor on his victory.

Addressing party members and supporters after the exercise, Madumere described the outcome as a collective triumph rather than a personal achievement, urging PDP members across Owerri Zone to remain united ahead of the general election.

“This moment is not merely a personal victory or a privilege to be arrogantly boastful, but a victory for unity, loyalty, and experience for the collective aspiration of our people for purposeful representation and responsible leadership,” he said.

The former deputy governor praised the spirit of sportsmanship displayed by other contestants in the race and described them as winners who contributed to strengthening the democratic process within the party.

Madumere also expressed gratitude to the PDP National Secretary, Senator Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu, for what he described as steadfast leadership and commitment to sustaining the party despite political pressures facing opposition parties across the country.

He further commended the Imo PDP leadership under state chairman Hon. Austin Nwachukwu, alongside party elders, ward executives, women leaders, youths and grassroots supporters for keeping the party active and united in the state.

The American-trained technocrat said the confidence reposed in him by delegates and supporters came with enormous responsibility, stressing that Owerri Zone deserves quality representation built on integrity, competence and accessibility.

“Your confidence in me is a sacred responsibility which I do not take for granted. Owerri Zone deserves a voice that understands the pains, hopes, and aspirations of the people,” Madumere stated.

Highlighting his experience in government, the former deputy governor said his previous roles as Chief of Staff and Deputy Governor of Imo State had prepared him to offer responsive leadership and attract development projects to communities across the district.

According to him, his legislative priorities would focus on infrastructure, youth empowerment, support for small businesses, education, agriculture and sustainable economic opportunities capable of improving the lives of residents in Owerri Zone.

Madumere maintained that his senatorial ambition was driven by service and grassroots development, promising to pursue people-focused representation if elected into the National Assembly in 2027.
