2027 Election: Tinubu Will Suffer ‘Woeful Defeat’ Despite Political Backing, Solomon Dalung Predicts

Former Minister of Youth and Sports, Solomon Dalung, has predicted a major defeat for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election, claiming that even the strongest political advantages would not prevent voters from rejecting the president.

Dalung, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), made the statement during an interview on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Wednesday, where he linked his prediction to the outcome of the recent Osun State governorship election.

The former minister said the Osun election had strengthened his earlier belief that Nigerians would make their decision based on leadership performance rather than political structures or influence.

“What happened in Osun is a confirmation of what I have said two years ago, that even if Tinubu appointed his wife (Remi Tinubu) as Chief Justice of Nigeria and appointed Seyi (his son) as INEC chairman, he is going to be defeated woefully in 2027,” Dalung said.

Dalung criticised the country’s political leadership, arguing that many leaders had failed to fully uphold their constitutional responsibilities, especially in protecting citizens’ welfare and improving living conditions.

He urged public officials to focus less on accumulating wealth and more on creating lasting achievements that would define their time in office.

“If we have leaders who have consciences, who know that all these monies they are busy stockpiling, one day they will depart this earth without anything, they will concentrate on building a legacy that they will be remembered for,” he said.

The ADC chieftain also argued that regional interests and the performance of the Tinubu administration would play major roles in determining the outcome of the 2027 election. He dismissed the possibility that governors who recently joined the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) could guarantee victory for the president.

According to Dalung, the next presidential election would not only be about political parties or opposition alliances but about the individual Nigerians choose to lead the country.

The 2027 presidential race is expected to be highly competitive, with major opposition figures exploring alliances against the APC. Campaign activities officially begin as political parties prepare for another nationwide contest.
