Social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has warned Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, that Nigerians could resist any attempt to influence the outcome of the 2027 general elections.
VDM issued the warning in a recent video shared on Instagram while reacting to Wike’s declaration that President Bola Tinubu would win the 2027 presidential election regardless of the votes cast.
The activist interpreted Wike’s remarks as suggesting that the election result would favour Tinubu irrespective of the electorate’s choice. He accused the minister of displaying impunity and alleged that the current administration had emboldened political figures to make such statements.
VDM also criticised the circumstances surrounding the suspension of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara during his political dispute with Wike, Fubara’s predecessor. He argued that the episode raised concerns about the influence political leaders wield over elected officials.
Addressing Wike directly, the activist urged him to exercise restraint, saying that political power ultimately rests with the people.
VDM warned that any move to manipulate the 2027 election could provoke public resistance. He said Nigerians could unite against such an attempt and make it difficult for those involved to achieve their objectives.
“Wike, you feel you are God over the people? Wike, you need to calm down because this is just a reminder that the people are bigger than you,” he said in the video.
He concluded by cautioning the minister to be careful about his actions ahead of the next general elections.
Wike’s reported remarks and VDM’s response have brought renewed attention to concerns about electoral credibility and political accountability ahead of the 2027 polls. However, VDM’s claim that Wike’s comments implied election rigging represents the activist’s interpretation, rather than proof that the minister intends to manipulate the election.
