2027: Ganduje Has No Moral Right to Dismiss NDC Ticket, Says Kwankwaso

Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) vice-presidential candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has fired back at former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, over claims that the party’s presidential ticket has no chance of winning Kano State in the 2027 general election.

The exchange follows Ganduje’s recent dismissal of the NDC ticket, led by Peter Obi with Kwankwaso as his running mate. The former Kano State governor described the alliance as “dead on arrival” and argued that it lacked the political influence and leadership credentials needed to secure victory in Kano.

Kwankwaso, however, rejected the remarks, insisting Ganduje was not in a position to determine the electoral prospects of the NDC in the state.

Speaking during an interview on News Central TV, the former Kano governor said Ganduje’s comments were misplaced, recalling the political history between both leaders.

“Ganduje has no reason to make that statement,” Kwankwaso said.

He noted that he and his political allies backed Ganduje’s emergence in 2015 but later defeated the APC in Kano during the 2023 elections despite Ganduje serving as governor at the time.

“We supported him in 2015. In 2023 we defeated him and if he could not do anything when he was governor, what can he do now?” Kwankwaso stated.

His remarks add another layer to the growing political rivalry ahead of the 2027 general election, with Kano expected to remain one of Nigeria’s key battleground states.

Political observers anticipate more exchanges between major political figures as parties intensify campaigns and positioning ahead of the next presidential contest.
