2027: Peter Obi Urges NDC Aspirants To Accept Primary Results, Focus On Party Unity

Peter Obi has appealed to aggrieved aspirants within the Nigeria Democratic Congress to accept the outcome of the party’s primaries and work together ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking during the party’s second National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja, the former Labour Party presidential candidate urged members to put internal disagreements behind them and focus on strengthening the NDC as a viable political force.

Obi acknowledged that political contests naturally produce both winners and losers, but stressed that the future of the party depended on how members responded after the exercise.

“I want to sincerely appeal to all our aspirants who participated in the primaries to accept the outcomes in good faith,” he said.

“In every democratic process, there will be winners and there will be those who do not succeed. What matters is what we do after the process,” Obi added.

The former Anambra State governor addressed party leaders, serving and former lawmakers, state chairmen and other stakeholders at the gathering, while also apologising for the delayed start of the meeting.

He described the NDC as a growing political movement that had achieved significant milestones within a short period, noting that the party successfully organised congresses, conventions and primary elections within roughly 90 days.

According to Obi, the rapid organisation of party activities demonstrates the commitment of members to building a credible political alternative capable of addressing Nigeria’s economic and governance challenges.

The NDC presidential candidate also called for greater cooperation among party members, warning that division and lingering resentment after the primaries could weaken the party’s chances ahead of the next election cycle.

His remarks come as political parties across Nigeria continue internal consultations and realignments in preparation for the 2027 elections, with several opposition figures seeking to build stronger coalitions against the ruling APC.
