2027: Port Harcourt Youths Reject APC in Viral Campaign as Wike Backs Tinubu in Rivers

A fresh political fault line is emerging in Rivers State ahead of the 2027 general elections, with a viral video showing youths in Port Harcourt urging residents to reject the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The youths, seen moving through parts of the state capital, criticised the administration of President Bola Tinubu over economic hardship and what they described as failures in governance. Their campaign called on residents not to support the APC when Nigerians vote in 2027.

During the street demonstration, the youths questioned whether ordinary residents have enough food and access to reliable electricity. They blamed the hardship they said people are facing on what they described as poor governance under the current administration.

The campaign comes as FCT Minister and former Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike, continues to project strong support for Tinubu in the state. Wike has said there will be no meaningful opposition in Rivers during the 2027 election, arguing that voters are united behind the president’s re-election bid.

Wike’s political camp has drawn support from politicians across different parties who are backing candidates aligned with his coalition. The former governor has presented the alliance as a broad political movement capable of delivering electoral support for Tinubu in Rivers.

The competing narratives point to a potentially intense political contest in the state. While the viral street campaign suggests that some youths are dissatisfied with the federal government’s handling of the economy, Wike’s position paints a very different picture of the political mood in Rivers.

However, the video alone does not establish how widespread the anti-APC sentiment is across Port Harcourt or the wider state. Its significance will depend on whether similar campaigns emerge and whether they translate into broader grassroots support as the 2027 election approaches.
