Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared that the 2027 presidential election is already settled in favour of President Bola Tinubu, insisting that nobody can prevent the president from securing another term.
Wike made the claim on Friday while speaking with journalists in Abuja, as political parties and opposition groups step up their preparations for the 2027 general elections.
The former Rivers State governor also mocked African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain Dele Momodu over his efforts to persuade Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke to join the opposition party.
Wike questioned Momodu’s political prospects while referring to the ADC chieftain’s repeated comments about his connection to Ile-Ife, apparently in an effort to appeal to Adeleke and other Osun political interests.
“This election has been concluded and there is nothing anyone can do about it. I don’t know where Dele Momodu will be now,” Wike said.
He added: “Every time, you will see him on TV saying, ‘I was born in Ife,’ thinking that would make Adeleke come to the ADC side.”
The comments come as the ADC seeks to strengthen its position as one of the opposition platforms preparing to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027. Atiku Abubakar is the party’s presidential candidate.
Wike’s assertion that the presidential contest has effectively been decided is likely to attract criticism from opposition figures, particularly as the election is still months away and political alliances remain fluid.
The minister’s remarks also come amid allegations in some quarters that the outcome of the 2027 election could already be predetermined in favour of the APC. Opposition parties have continued to mobilise, build alliances and court influential political figures ahead of the poll.
For now, Wike remains firmly behind Tinubu and has projected the president’s re-election as a foregone conclusion, while opposition parties continue to insist that the 2027 contest remains open.
