2027 Tension Brews in Nasarawa as Group Accuses APC of Marginalising Christian Politicians

Fresh political tension is building within All Progressives Congress in Nasarawa State after a socio-political group accused the ruling party of sidelining Christian politicians ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The Integrity Youth Alliance warned that the growing perception of religious imbalance within the party’s leadership and candidate selection process could trigger serious political consequences if not urgently addressed.

In a statement issued by its spokesperson, Danjuma Lamido, the group expressed concern over the emergence of Muslim candidates for the governorship position and the three senatorial districts in recent APC political arrangements within the state.

According to the alliance, many Christian stakeholders now feel increasingly excluded from the party’s power structure, a development it said threatens the principles of fairness, inclusiveness and balanced representation.

“The recent political developments within the APC have created widespread concern among many Christians who feel increasingly excluded from the party’s power-sharing arrangements,” the statement noted.

The group specifically referenced the disqualification of Angela Aya Bako from the Nasarawa North Senatorial District by-election and the emergence of Abubakar Nalaraba for the Nasarawa South Senatorial position ahead of Deputy Governor Emmanuel Agbadu Akabe as decisions that have deepened frustration among Christian members of the party.

The alliance also recalled earlier concerns raised by the Youth Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria in the state, which had appealed to APC leaders to ensure equal political opportunities regardless of religious affiliation.

According to the group, those concerns appear to have been ignored, creating dissatisfaction among sections of the party ahead of what is expected to become a fiercely contested 2027 election season.

The organisation warned that continued perceptions of exclusion could reshape voting behaviour across Nasarawa State, especially with presidential and National Assembly elections expected to hold simultaneously.

It pointed to the 2023 presidential election, where Labour Party reportedly secured more votes than the APC in Nasarawa, as evidence that political decisions viewed as unfair can carry major electoral consequences.

The alliance urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the APC national leadership and influential stakeholders within the party to intervene before the situation further weakens party unity in the state.

“The APC was built on the ideals of justice, fairness, inclusion and equal opportunity. Preserving those values remains essential to maintaining party unity and strengthening its electoral fortunes,” the statement added.

The development comes as political consultations, alliances and behind-the-scenes negotiations continue to intensify across Nasarawa State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
