The Chief Medical Director of LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, Prof. Olawale Olakulehin, has confirmed that 31 of the 39 rescued pupils abducted from schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State have been discharged after being certified medically fit.
According to the hospital, the children have been reunited with their families, while eight others remain under medical observation and treatment to ensure their complete recovery.
Olakulehin said the hospital admitted all 39 rescued pupils following their release from captivity and has continued to provide comprehensive medical care to aid their rehabilitation.
He described the discharge of the 31 pupils as another major milestone in the recovery process, noting that the remaining children would continue receiving the best medical attention until they are certified fit to return home.
The hospital also assured parents and members of the public that the welfare of the rescued pupils remains its highest priority, adding that specialists will continue monitoring both their physical and psychological health as part of their post-rescue rehabilitation.
The development follows the successful rescue of the abducted pupils and their teachers after they were kidnapped from schools in Oriire Local Government Area.
Earlier this week, Governor Seyi Makinde formally received the rescued victims, commending security agencies and all those involved in securing their freedom.
During the reception, the governor maintained that the circumstances surrounding the abduction warranted an independent international investigation, arguing that such a probe would strengthen public confidence, establish the full facts of the incident and ensure accountability.
However, Makinde’s call has drawn criticism from the Presidency and the Senate, both of which argued that Nigeria, as a sovereign nation, is capable of handling investigations through its own institutions.
