The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, will on Thursday commission two completed road projects and flag off 12 new infrastructure developments across Abuja, including major road networks and solar lighting installations under the Light Up Abuja initiative.

According to a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, the commissioning and flag-offs will run between September 18 and October 16, 2025.

Among the projects for commissioning are the access roads in Sector Centre B by Dakibiyu District and two newly constructed roads in Mabushi District — Esther Bali Street (ILS 11) and Kez Udezue Street (MAR 24).

The new projects cover a wide range of infrastructure, including:

  • Procurement of integrated solar lighting for key districts such as Maitama, Asokoro, Wuse, CBD, Airport Expressway, Katampe, Garki, Mabushi, Gudu, Jabi, and Katampe Extension.
  • Full development of Arterial Road N1 (Wuye District to Ring Road II).
  • Construction of Northern Parkway (Ring Road II to Ring Road III).
  • Access road to Mabushi Bus Terminal (Cadastral Zone B06).
  • Phase II of Arterial N20 (Solomon Lar Way) linking Obafemi Awolowo Way to the Airport Expressway.
  • Roads to support the Renewed Hope Cities project in Karsana West.
  • Bypass road to the second Abuja Airport runway, featuring a four-span bridge.
  • Access road to the FCT Fire Service Station with erosion control works in Kaura District.
  • Transit Way 2 linking the Central Area with Wuse, including two bridges.
  • Rehabilitation of 15km Old Keffi Road (Kado Village to Dei-Dei Junction).
  • Infrastructure for Guzape A09 layouts.
  • Collector Road CN2 (Emmanuel I. Ogala Street) in Katampe District.
  • New residences for the heads of Nigeria’s highest courts.

These projects follow recent FCT initiatives, including expanded water supply to satellite towns, a new sports centre in Kafe District, a Magistrate Court complex in Jabi, and road rehabilitation works in Karu.

Wike has repeatedly pledged to prioritize infrastructure renewal and expansion, positioning Abuja as a model capital city with modern amenities, improved access roads, and sustainable energy solutions.
