Police in Abuja have recovered the body of an unidentified woman from Jabi Lake, sparking fresh concern over safety around the popular recreational spot.
The discovery was confirmed by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command after security analyst Zagazola Makama shared details of the incident on X.
According to reports, officers from Jabi Division were alerted around 10:37 a.m. on Saturday following a distress call from Jabi Lake Recreation Centre. On arrival, they found the body of a woman, believed to be around 60 years old, floating in the water.
Sources said there were no visible signs of violence, but a pair of green slippers was found on the lake’s bank.
Because the body had already decomposed, police contacted the Environmental Health Department, which evacuated it to avoid public health risks.
The FCT Police Command confirmed that investigations are underway to identify the deceased and establish the circumstances surrounding her death.
