The Kebbi State Police Command says it has dismantled a syndicate accused of supplying motorcycles to terrorist groups operating in the state.
Five suspects were arrested on September 19 during a joint patrol by police officers and vigilantes in Kamba town, Dandi Local Government Area. The operation was led by Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Bello Lawal.
Police spokesman Nafiu Abubakar confirmed the arrests in a statement on Monday, describing the development as a “major breakthrough” in the fight against violent crime.
The suspects — Saifullahi Suleiman, 37, Halidu Adamu, 26, Ibrahim Abubakar, 37, and Sani Kabiru, 22 — were allegedly caught with three Honda motorcycles worth ₦5.4 million. The motorcycles, often referred to locally as “Boko Haram bikes,” were reportedly smuggled from Benin Republic and destined for the Lakurawa terrorist group through an accomplice based in Kangiwa town, Arewa Local Government Area.
During investigations, another suspect, Mubarak Ladan, 28, allegedly offered the DPO ₦600,000 to secure the release of those arrested. He was immediately taken into custody and the money recovered as evidence.
Kebbi Commissioner of Police, Bello Sani, has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department in Birnin Kebbi to intensify efforts to track down other accomplices.
He commended the Kamba DPO and vigilantes for their professionalism and urged other divisional commanders to replicate such dedication in tackling criminal networks across the state.
Sani reiterated the command’s commitment to securing Kebbi’s borders and called on residents to support the police with credible intelligence to ensure lasting peace.
