Nigeria’s voter register is swelling ahead of the 2027 general elections, with more than 6.2 million new sign-ups recorded in the latest phase of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR). The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says young people make up the majority of new registrants.
Figures released by the Commission for the period 22–28 September 2025 show that 6,232,673 Nigerians have registered. Women slightly outnumbered men, with 3,250,338 (52.15%) compared to 2,982,335 (47.85%).
INEC data highlights that Nigerians aged 18–34 accounted for 4,230,715 registrations, signalling a strong wave of youth participation. Students formed a significant block, with 1,565,824 registrants, while 137,865 persons with disabilities also completed their registrations.
For Week 5 of the exercise (22–26 September), a total of 1,004,132 registrations were finalised — 537,743 online and 466,389 in person at designated centres.
Women again led the completed registrations with 555,077 (55.28%), ahead of men at 449,055 (44.72%). Youths accounted for 742,379, while 354,406 students and 13,987 persons with disabilities were also captured.
INEC said the figures reflect rising enthusiasm among Nigerians, especially first-time voters, to shape the country’s democratic future.
