Osun Election: APC, PDP File Petitions Challenging Adeleke’s Re-election

The All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have filed separate petitions challenging the outcome of the August 15 Osun State governorship election that returned Governor Ademola Adeleke to office for a second term.

The two petitions, dated September 5, 2026, were displayed on the notice board of the Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal secretariat in Osogbo on Monday, formally setting the legal process in motion.

The development followed confirmation by the tribunal’s Secretary, Pefe Belemore, that petitions had been filed against the election result. Tribunal officials were at the secretariat as preparations began for the commencement of the proceedings.

The APC petition, marked EPT/OS/GOV/01/2026, was filed by the party’s governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji. The respondents named in the petition are Governor Adeleke, the Accord Party and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The second petition, marked EPT/OS/GOV/02/2026, was filed by Adebayo Olugbenga Adedamola on the platform of the PDP. Adeleke, INEC and the Accord Party were listed as respondents.

The filing of the petitions is expected to lead to the next stages of the election dispute, including the service of court processes on the parties and subsequent hearings before the tribunal.

Officials of the Accord Party and members of its legal team were also seen at the tribunal premises on Monday as the legal battle over the election result begins.

Adeleke, who contested on the Accord Party platform, was declared winner of the August 15 poll after securing 511,067 votes. Oyebamiji of the APC finished second with 444,815 votes.

The tribunal will now determine the issues raised by the petitioners and consider the evidence presented by the parties before reaching its decision on the disputed election.
