Two vigilante members have been killed after a bomb suspected to have been planted by Boko Haram militants exploded in Yobe State.
The blast occurred on Friday, 27 September, along the Damaturu–Buni Yadi highway near Madiya village in Gujba Local Government Area. The device detonated at about 2:30 p.m., killing the men instantly.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama, who reported the incident, identified the victims as 35-year-old Kinnafi Modu and 27-year-old Mamman Kasaisa. Two other vigilantes sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Damaturu General Hospital for urgent treatment.
Police officers, led by the Divisional Police Officer of Gujba and the Officer-in-Charge of the State Intelligence Bureau, swiftly moved to the scene, assisting with evacuation and clearance operations. Calm was later restored to the area.
Authorities confirmed that security has been reinforced along the busy Damaturu–Buni Yadi Road, with tactical teams deployed to prevent further attacks.
The attack highlights the continued threat posed by Boko Haram insurgents in parts of northeast Nigeria, despite years of military operations aimed at restoring peace.
